They are not cheap any where since they are a one model wonder damn BMW for not using the standard E36 heater in our cars... The cabin airfilters should sit in a plastic frame directly above the blower motor, in between the dash and firewall directly in the center. Which are you talking about in your posts? You have to be specific on stuff like this or you'll end up being led in the wrong direction. __________________ -Alex 1995 Bmw 318ti - Cordoba rot | | | 05-22-2013, 03:55 AM | #7 | Senior Member Join Date: Mar 2005 Location: Portland Or Posts: 2,666 | Ahha! Ok,, Only the standard air filter goes in the air box, some cars have an insulation layer in the box,, remove it. It gets dried out and falls apart.. and the engine eats it... Not needed at all and doesn't really do much to begin with. __________________ 1997 318ti 5-speed Moreagrün 1996 318ti auto Hellrot (retired) | | | 05-22-2013, 07:20 PM | #9 | Member Join Date: May 2012 Location: springfield, MO Posts: 59 | well Im not sure how its ending up in the vents (only small amt) but now that i know that its only insulation i just vacuumed it out and wont worry about it. thanks all for replying. That material basically covers all the inside walls of the air filter box, but it seems not to do anything at all... If that material is breaking apart, do your car a favor and get rid of it before it ends up inside the engine. I hope this helps Note: The material is held inside the box by a plastic frame that can be detached from the air filter box, just be careful. | | | 11-05-2014, 04:57 AM | #11 | Senior Member Join Date: Dec 2010 Location: Wichita Falls, Texas Posts: 1,364 | That material was too thin be of any use, either to deaden sound or insulate, imo.
