I only have one and I'm always paranoid that I might lose it so I always want a spare. Do I have to go to the dealer or can I just go to any locksmith to make me one? I also have the original car alarm on it, can I get a spare remote from the dealer as well? Thanks, -Jeff | | | 06-19-2007, 05:49 AM | #2 | Senior Member Join Date: Mar 2005 Location: Portland Or Posts: 2,666 | If its made before Sept of 95 there is a chance any locksmith can do it, if its made after that and especially if its any 96 mod year or newer just go straight to the dealer and bend over. There is no escape. Any dealer can tell if you take the car in whether or not you have the radio chip key if you do your choices are few.... The one with the light cost me $37 IIRC. Don't lose them, as I was informed there were only a certain number cut for any particular lockset. I believe the thread is on here, with info provided by John Firestone. __________________ I scream, you scream, we all scream for ZOMBIES. | | | 06-20-2007, 06:10 PM | #4 | Senior Member Join Date: Aug 2003 Location: cary, nc Posts: 2,259 | Agreed...dealer is how you have to go....and if you need another keyless entry remote....bend over...and stay over because my dealer told me it would be 200 for another remote! needless to say, i said F that... and by 'F' i mean forget __________________ 1995 318ti Active Pioneer Speakers [] Aluminum Billet door locks [] ACS Pedals/Deadrest [] ACS Shift Knob / E-Brake Handle [] Clear Corners/Tails/Sides [] Sylvania Exterior Lighting [] Custom CAI [] Dinan Engine Chip [] Dinan Transmission Chip [] H&R Race Springs [] Tokico Illumina Shocks [] BMW X-Brace [] Relocated Lighter Mod [] Custom iPod Mod http://www.cardomain.com/id/robcarync | | | 06-20-2007, 07:35 PM | #5 | Senior Member Join Date: Aug 2005 Location: Melbourne, Fl/Athens, AL Posts: 393 | aceyx is right, you only have a limited number of keys precut for your car, sitting in a warehouse in Germany. Once you use up those keys, the entire car has to be rekeyed and the EWS system realigned. __________________ -Kenny | | | 06-21-2007, 12:05 AM | #6 | Member Join Date: Jun 2007 Location: CA Posts: 43 | Thanks for the input guys, I'm going to see how much the dealer decides to rip me off. Another key would be nice, but if they asks too much then I'll probably have to just forget it too and make sure I never lose my key. | | | 06-21-2007, 07:23 AM | #7 | Senior Member Join Date: Aug 2004 Location: state college, pa Posts: 3,431 | Try different dealers as well. Pacific BMW up in Glendale seems to give pretty good prices. You may have to show up in person, but ask if you can fax the information to order it, then when you pick it up show the required documentation. __________________ I scream, you scream, we all scream for ZOMBIES. | | | | Currently Active Users Viewing This Thread: 1 (0 members and 1 guests) | | Posting Rules | You may not post new threads You may not post replies You may not post attachments You may not edit your posts HTML code is Off | | | |
