Hi 318ti friends,

I've just purchased a beautiful 1996 318ti 5-speed manual with 170,000 km on the clock. Panels, paint and interior are in excellent condition.

I've already got troubles with the key tumbler but having that repaired under dealer warranty.

Also I've noticed the squeal from the AC Compression so I suspect it's the clutch bearing.

Head liner and door cards need to be re-glued and the hatch is out of alignment so need to straighten that.

Otherwise the car is awesome. Love the way it drives and feels on the road.

Hope to be a contributor for many years to come.

Re: Ignition tumbler- common problem with these cars. Mine was replaced about 8 years ago; haven't had any problems since.

Re: A/C- start by checking the belt first, as it tends to be the most common reason for A/C 'squeal'. From there, make sure the belt tensioner is adjusted correctly and the pulley is rotating freely w/o excessive play.

Do a forum search for both of these items, as there are probably several threads discussing/pertaining to both!
