Cool Radio Automatic volume (GALA)

According to the wiring diagram, my car should have an output from the speedo to work the auto volume on my original BMW Business radio/cassette.

From this output, according to the book, the BMW Business radio cassette should vary its volume according to the road speed.

BUT IT DOESN'T !

The black/white wire that should carry the GALA speed signal is present. Any info on - "does yours work" or "no they never work" or "how to test" would be appreciated.

Please help - thanks - Jim Butterworth

Thanks - that's helpful; at least mine SHOULD work ! Now - is it the radio part not working or the speedometer part ?

Deck seems OK on mine but I am attracted to an aftermarket radio/CD !

I know you can set the sensitivity of the knob at speeds over 40 mph, and I think it automatically bumps up the bass level when it hits that threshold.

I have a similar set-up on my E30 with a Blaupunkt radio; that works very well, though it is set on the top notch of the six available. It starts to increase the volume (not just the bass) at around 10mph and is quite loud (to match the car) at 60mph !
