Default OK...What is the secret to the rear wiper sweep?

Hi,

I just bought a used 99 ti for a daily driver and have some questions.

What is the secret to the rear wiper sweep? I click it once and it seems to keep going intermittently. Is there a set number of times it sweeps before it stops and if so, how do I turn it off when I do not want it to sweep anymore?

Also, I'm having some interior light problems. The lights under the dashboard are supposed to turn on and off with the dome lights correct? I turn off the dome lights and the lights under the dash still stay on when I close and lock the door...is there a time delay?

I am assuming that my dome lights should fade out/off when I lock the car just like any other e36? I'm having some problems with interior lights staying on.

This a common question and has been covered here before so it SHOULD be "findable" via the search function. However...

Push the lever once to turn on the rear wiper.
Push the lever again to turn off the rear wiper. It will wipe one final time and then be off. That last wipe is what confuses everyone.

Thanks for the reply guys. I understand what the wiper was doing now. It's a 99 ti. Sorry, I wasn't talking about the actual dash lights that come on when u turn your headlights on. I meant the footwell lights that are up underneath the dash (one on each side).

Wondering how exactly they are suppossed to work...as in when they are supposed to turn on and off. They seem to be staying on after I close and lock the car...

Thanks again guys!

They are not controlled by the interior light switch, and as long as the doors are closed properly they will dim and switch off within about 10 seconds of closing the door.

the footwell lights come on soon as you unlock the car then stay on untill you close the door again well dim then off
if you open the door and turn ignition on they go out very quick
if you walk away from the car with out locking it the lights stay on longer
i think thats to let you know its not locked
as soon as you lock the car they dim and then off
same goes with the dome lights also (thats the case on my 99 Ti)

I had the EXACT issue. Problem was the switch on the rear hatch. I'd be driving, all doors would be shut, dome light was turned off, but footwell lights would remain on. Even though the rear hatch was properly shut, the switch was malfunctioning.

Thanks for the info guys.

Shellback, I was thinking the exact same thing! I've been having trouble with my hatch closing properly, so that must be it. Even when I do get it "closed", it must still be malfunctioning. I'm going to try and find a replacement for it.

Thanks again

my Ti is one tap to turn on, and three quick taps to turn off. One top doesn't turn it off in my car
