I pulled the rear seat cushion out yesterday to look at the build sheet. The car has 2 mandatory options that is it. The Canada equipment group, which I assume, is the unique safety and emissions requirements, and airbags. These are mandatory options. The car originally came with power windows, locks, air, AM-FM cassette, leather wheel and shifter knob and I guess smokers package but maybe that is part of the Canada equipment group as they are not listed. The locks are probably part of the alarm system that the previous owner installed as the key fobs are not BMW. The eBay listing that claims their 1995 is 1 of 3 with no sunroof got me interested enough to look at the sheet. Yay, Kate's car accounts for 33% of them, however improbable that claim is. I will weigh the car sometime, that’d be interesting.. | | | 10-02-2007, 06:29 PM | #2 | Senior Member Join Date: Aug 2005 Location: Florida Posts: 2,525 | It is a base model. There are a lot of base model Ti's without sunroofs. That ebay ad is completely wrong. There is only speculation that there were 3 1995 clubsports with the option of not having a sunroof. The nice thing about a Ti, is even though it is a base model, it still came with better options than what a base model honda, etc.. would have came with. Traction control, ABS, airbags, etc.. Not bad for a base model mid 90's car. You can look at the poll about who has a sunroof and who does not to see that more than 3 people don't have a sunroof. | | | 10-02-2007, 06:34 PM | #3 | Junior Member Join Date: May 2007 Location: White Rock, BC, Canada Posts: 28 | I know there are lots without a sunroof we looked at 2 others before buying this one and neither of them had sunroofs. After reading this forum it occurs to me what is so fascinating about Kate's car is its lack of options. It is the only one I have seen without a rear wiper, probably not one of the wisest omissions on the west coast but it really isn't a problem. | | | 10-02-2007, 06:41 PM | #4 | Senior Member Join Date: Aug 2005 Location: Florida Posts: 2,525 | Wow.. No rear wiper? That is odd. I guess there could be some undocumented differences between a US market Ti and a Canadian Ti. I have a 95 active that has the rear wiper. But my car also has the cold weather package that came with LSD. An active in 95 gives you the most options. But a 95 club sport gives you the best options.. | | | 10-02-2007, 09:21 PM | #5 | Member Join Date: Mar 2007 Location: Bay Area California Posts: 51 | The one you're talking about has more options than mine even. I don't have a leather shift knob or steering wheel, grey cloth interior, no sunroof, etc... | | | 10-02-2007, 09:34 PM | #6 | Junior Member Join Date: May 2007 Location: White Rock, BC, Canada Posts: 28 | I know that several people refer to the leather wheel and shift knob as options and it seems base European cars had manual windows. At one point we looked at a 94 318is that didn't have air, I didn't think any e36s didn't have air. None of that stuff shows on the build sheet and I didn't think US spec and Canadian cars were different except for daytime running lights. It also has charcoal cloth seats, much nicer than the vinyl ones. | | | 10-02-2007, 11:05 PM | #7 | Senior Member Join Date: Jun 2007 Location: Ferndale, MD Posts: 462 | I am pretty sure that I have close to the lowest base TI that you can get. I have cloth interior, rubber steering wheel and shift knob. I do have a/c and p/l and p/w. I also have a rear wiper. I also have 185 pizza cutter tires and hubcaps I am pretty sure I don't have an LSD, i will turn off the ASC on of these days and see if ths car can do a respectable burn-out. | | | 10-02-2007, 11:18 PM | #8 | Senior Member Join Date: Aug 2004 Location: state college, pa Posts: 3,431 | US Spec cars were given a good slathering of original equipment as standard. Power everything was a must, as was AC. In '96 they painted the rocker panels and added a 10-speaker system as standard. In '98 (?) ASC+T was given gratis, and I think airbags and rear headrests as well. US Consumers are generally known to expect certain things as standard, that the rest of the world sees either as a luxury or an unnecessary convenience. E.g., try and find a car these days that doesn't include a cd player. __________________ I scream, you scream, we all scream for ZOMBIES. | | | | Currently Active Users Viewing This Thread: 1 (0 members and 1 guests) | | Posting Rules | You may not post new threads You may not post replies You may not post attachments You may not edit your posts HTML code is Off | | | |
