I have read that the front suspension from a 2.8L Z3 works. __________________ ~Dave~ 98 328ti Morea Grun slicktop 11 128i space gray slicktop 13 JGC WK2 Deep Cherry Search | RealOEM | | | 09-06-2008, 08:56 PM | #3 | Senior Member Join Date: Jun 2003 Location: Greenville, SC Posts: 9,356 | I do believe you will need to swap out your front suspension at the very least. Brakes will be fine. You might want to compare struts and springs on realoem. __________________ ...steven BMW CCA #146825 1996 BMW 328ti • 2003 MINI Cooper S • 2016 M235i www.bmwcca.org | | | 09-06-2008, 11:20 PM | #4 | Senior Member Join Date: Jul 2006 Location: Scandia, MN Posts: 215 | Suspension? Really? The M50 weighs less than 100 lbs more than the M42/44. A good idea? Yeah. A necessity? Probably not. 325 brakes, on the other hand, should be installed. | | | 09-06-2008, 11:59 PM | #5 | Senior Member Join Date: Sep 2006 Location: Wisconsin Posts: 1,895 | It sounds like you are itching to do a swap. I suppose if the old motor is losing compression it would be worth it. Anything less than that, I would keep trying to fix the old one. __________________ ... ʎɐqǝ uo pɹɐoqʎǝʞ ɐ ʎnq ı ǝɯıʇ ʇsɐן ǝɥʇ sı sıɥʇ | | | 09-07-2008, 12:20 AM | #6 | Senior Member Join Date: Aug 2004 Location: state college, pa Posts: 3,431 | Quote: Originally Posted by Bobbak or do i just keep my m42 and keep trying to fix it | What have you done to try and fix it? The difference is in the accessories. I would say the m42 motor has less problems with things like water pumps, oil pumps, and cooling system parts. They are both still pretty reliable once you understand what the normal maintenance items include. | | | 09-07-2008, 05:24 AM | #12 | Senior Member Join Date: Aug 2006 Location: maritimes Posts: 1,433 | put the proper springs in there... i promise you your car will no longer handle half as well as it does now. im still running the 4cyl springs cause i can't justify the money right now, but you definitly can't have fun in the corners like before, especially with the 5's on there. __________________ 11/97 Base 328Ti | | | 09-07-2008, 05:41 AM | #13 | Senior Member Join Date: Jul 2006 Location: Southern California - Orange county Posts: 978 | Quote: Originally Posted by Philly put the proper springs in there... i promise you your car will no longer handle half as well as it does now. im still running the 4cyl springs cause i can't justify the money right now, but you definitly can't have fun in the corners like before, especially with the 5's on there. | so if i was to do a swap would there be any way to swap in the right parts to have 50/50 weight distribution? __________________ 1995 318ti Cosmos Black Bilsteins w/ H&R Sport, Depos w/ angeleyes and HID 5K, 50% short throw kit, Custom fogged intake, AC schnitzer pedels w/ deadpedels, leather stickshift knob, vitesse tuning Ebreak boot w/ shift boot, X-Brace, 325/328 brake upgrade, Gray millpoint leather and cloth interior, custom computer multimedia system, and Style 5 BBS 17" rims, M3 Mirrors, CF Hood | | | 09-07-2008, 06:18 AM | #14 | NOBODY F's with the Jesus Join Date: Oct 2006 Location: Ventura California Posts: 7,824 | Quote: Originally Posted by Bobbak so if i was to do a swap would there be any way to swap in the right parts to have 50/50 weight distribution? | Bobby Bobby Bobby, read up on it would ya. There's dozens of swap threads out there. Seems like almost everyday there's a new one. I know I've mentioned atleast 10 times, move the battery to the back and buy a carbon hood. Done. The m50/s50 weighs about 80lbs more than the m42/m44, shift 40lbs to the back and you're even again. I'm gonna stop answering questions until the person has a motor on hand and is ready to do the swap because until then, it's just talk and there's plenty of that already. __________________ 4 MORE YEARS BABY!!! | | | 09-07-2008, 06:55 AM | #15 | Senior Member Join Date: Jul 2006 Location: Southern California - Orange county Posts: 978 | thanks Jess, for repeating your self numerous times about the same question hows the swap coming along BTW? __________________ 1995 318ti Cosmos Black Bilsteins w/ H&R Sport, Depos w/ angeleyes and HID 5K, 50% short throw kit, Custom fogged intake, AC schnitzer pedels w/ deadpedels, leather stickshift knob, vitesse tuning Ebreak boot w/ shift boot, X-Brace, 325/328 brake upgrade, Gray millpoint leather and cloth interior, custom computer multimedia system, and Style 5 BBS 17" rims, M3 Mirrors, CF Hood | | | | | Currently Active Users Viewing This Thread: 1 (0 members and 1 guests) | | Posting Rules | You may not post new threads You may not post replies You may not post attachments You may not edit your posts HTML code is Off | | | |
