Question smelly new muffler...

So I just got a new rear muffler from a custom exhaust place. (I'm not happy with it... looks too "ricey" but I cant do anything about it now.)
I dont know if its just the new crap burning off of the inside of the muffler, but it smells horrible. when i get out of my car, it smells like I parked over a dead fish. I've only driven it twice so far.
Is this normal, or am I just crazy?
thanks
-Chris.
