Default rebadging?

I just took the 318ti badge of my car to make it look a little cleaner, but the paint underneath is a little discolored and it's not as faded as the rest of the paint so I'm kinda regretting it

I'm thinking of just painting the badge black just to get rid of the chrome and putting it back on but I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions on regluing it?

If you figure out how to get the color to match, lemme know.

You would have to go to an autobody paint supply store and have them match the paint on your car with an optical device, rather than using the OEM color code to get a paint that matches your car today...

I think that painting your badges black is a good choice for your car, and would be much easier than trying to repaint the hatch...

Just use a dremel or similar with a fine sanding/grinding attachement to knock the surface off the chrome badge, smooth with emery cloth, primer and paint with a satin finish black. Then re-attach with proper adhesive in the original location...

what would you define as the "proper adhesive"

the original location's easy to find since I can very clearly see where the badge was

Have you tried using polishing the paint to see if it will match. eg. Meguires ScratchX or something similar. I'm just surprised to hear that the paint has faded so much.

As for appropriate double sided tape. There are a couple of options. I recently bought some from a dedicated on-line tape supplier (in the UK tho & I had to buy in 20 to 50meter rolls). You could also go to a model RC shop and get servo tape, very sticky.

Magnets aren't ideal; I put a magnetic GB on my car for driving around Europe. When I was cleaning the car I noticed lots of micro-scratches where the GB was. Nothing that can't be removed with a polisher though, just a bit of a pain.

If you want to use tape... 3M VHB is the best. Take a look at this... about 1:12 in.

But... haven't lot's of people rebadged their cars after a swap? Maybe someone who has done it AND had it stay on for a couple years can chime in.

the people who rebadge their cars after swaps usually buy a new badge with new adhesive tape already on it, I've been thinking though, and I've noticed that E36 318tis have the badge in 2 pieces, "318" is one piece and "ti" is another, but the E46 tis have a badge that's in 5 separate pieces for each letter and number, I may just buy one of those and paint it

and Rich, the paint isn't faded very badly, but for some reason parts of it where the adhesive was stuck are a lot darker than they would have been even brand new
