Are you sure it's not just a small bird trapped inside the panel?

Sorry about that, couldn't resist, seriously though, it's kind of hard to tell without actually hearing the sound. Is it a steady repetitive sound or is it sort of random sounding?

Hi, I've actually had the same problem. It usually goes away when I put a lot of weight in the rear or go over a large bump very quickly. My friends and I have diagnosed it to something loose at the rear shock mounts. However, beyond that I'm not sure. I've not bothered to try to really figure it out since I know exactly how to make it go away (take the route home that crosses that bumpy road) and it happens very rarely (only about 3-4 times) and for a very short period (no more than a day before it goes away).

Sounds weird but how tight are the RSM bolts? I had a similar problem with an old car of mine, and it just so happened a few weeks prior to the noise I had put in a rear strut bar. Even though we retightened all of the bolts, two of the three on the drivers side had started to loosen a little. I know the rear suspension on that car was double a arms and this is trailing arm, but it might be worth a shot. Just tighten down on those bolts and if the noise goes away, apply some loctite
