I just want to get connected to the internet. __________________ ...steven BMW CCA #146825 1996 BMW 328ti • 2003 MINI Cooper S • 2016 M235i www.bmwcca.org | | | 01-10-2009, 06:39 PM | #4 | Senior Member Join Date: Jul 2007 Location: norcal - 94590 Posts: 3,186 | Are you using IE, FF or other? Also check properties of your wireless card - look for Configure or Advanced tab and see if there is any address-related directives... ie: use this address... __________________ James 95 active w/leather interior and sport interior conversion, Vaders, full M-Tech exterior conversion. I'm sure you checked both, but here is my write up below just in case to double check the DNS settings. Check you wireless card settings for auto IP address and auto DNS settings. Go into control panel, go into network connection settings. From there right click on your wireless card entry and left click on the properties option. In the properties window, scroll down in the items section and double click on the TCP/IP entry. Verify that the TCP/IP settings are set to auto IP address and DNS settings. Auto IP address assignemt settings are also called DHCP which most if not all home routers are set to by default. Anyway, I bet it is the DNS setting that was set to manual in your case. __________________ McLaren F1 - BMW M Power S70/2 | | | 01-11-2009, 12:32 AM | #8 | Senior Member Join Date: Jun 2003 Location: Greenville, SC Posts: 9,356 | BINGO! The problem was that the DNS setting was already entered. I have no idea why it would have needed to be entered. Aren't all switches DHCP? Thanks! __________________ ...steven BMW CCA #146825 1996 BMW 328ti • 2003 MINI Cooper S • 2016 M235i www.bmwcca.org | | | 01-11-2009, 12:39 AM | #9 | Senior Member Join Date: Nov 2006 Location: Orange County, NY Posts: 1,067 | The DNS server is probably a way for the network admin to control internet usuage and block certain sites like a proxy server can do. __________________ McLaren F1 - BMW M Power S70/2 | | | 01-11-2009, 12:40 AM | #10 | Senior Member Join Date: Jul 2007 Location: norcal - 94590 Posts: 3,186 | Yeah! The DNS setting sounds like a firewall port forwarding or routing. Yes, you get your IP address from the work DHCP server, but the DNS still holds the key to the firewall... __________________ James 95 active w/leather interior and sport interior conversion, Vaders, full M-Tech exterior conversion. I'm glad I could help. I finally contributed to the org! __________________ McLaren F1 - BMW M Power S70/2 | | | 01-11-2009, 01:02 AM | #12 | Senior Member Join Date: Jun 2003 Location: Greenville, SC Posts: 9,356 | Quote: Originally Posted by Ji Money I'm glad I could help.
