Default Has anyone ever...

Hey, I just wanted to know because a lot of people talk about this but no one has ever said they've actually done it: Has anyone ever taken the heat shield off of their cat?
Mine is making a rattle so I had it welded, which was good for a while, but now the other end is rattling. Will there be any problems with not having a heat shield?
Also, I'm looking to buy a stainless steel cat back and have noticed some without resonators. Is that normal? The original cat-back has a resonator and I wanted to know if there will be any problems without one on an aftermarket unit.
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks.

I removed my heat shield. Don't park in long grass or top of a pile of leaves, or anything flammable for that matter. Or you'll find out the hard way what the heat shield does.

A resonator is needed if you don't run a cat.
