Maybe check that the battery cables are on tight?

Be sure the neg is tight to the body of the car at the other end too.

I'm just guessing here!

Did your check engine light flash at you or just illuminate?

Perhaps you had a misfire? Take your car to Advance Auto and have them run a scan using their OBDII scanner. It's free [at least here in Chicago] and will tell you what threw the code.

Are the spark plugs secure?

when i got my 96 ti i had a "lurching" problem while taking off it would jump and buck, after a few days a check engine light came on and then went off a couple days later, i found that the air intake duct that connects the air filter box and the intake had a hole the size of my fist and was allowing unmettered air in past the maf sensor, replaced duct and all is well now. hope this helps
