Default K&N Dust Cover on the Cosmo?

I'm looking to install a Cosmo Cold Air Intake. I am aware it has a K&N style cone filter. Now, I am driving from Maine down to San Angelo, TX where I will be for about six months. I'm told it's very dusty - and someone recommended that I hold off on the CAI. I read somewhere about a filter cover that K&N sells that will sleeve over the cone filter and effectively keep dust out.

Has anyone had any experience with this, or know if it is just better to hold off? I have a K&N Drop-In air filter in the original air box as it is, with a Bosal Cat Back getting installed next week.

Or the most extreme alternative (I want the most life span out of my car), should I just put back in a cotton filter while I'm in the desert?
