And 0-60 in 5.6? damn... But I'd still prefer the scirroco better. I love the coupe. __________________ Come get a ti-shirt Quote: From the e30 M3, evolved the e36. Are there sleeping bags under the hood? Strapped to the headliner? Very intriguing but unless it's as wide as a hummer, I don't see it happening. Hard to believe it's a typo though... Cool nonetheless and actually doable for 50 grand. __________________ My Former Rides 1999 318ti Alpine White, Cali Roof, Dinan goodies 1996 318ti Hellrot California Edition | | | 03-27-2009, 05:52 PM | #8 | Senior Member Join Date: Aug 2006 Location: central ct Posts: 503 | i don't buy electric as the future. electricity costs more than oil does... __________________ 2010 Genesis Coupe 2.0t track | 2000 Dakota Former 1995 318ti owner | | | 03-27-2009, 06:12 PM | #9 | Senior Member Join Date: Jun 2003 Location: Saint Paul, MN Posts: 3,244 | electricity- infinite supply from multiple sources, domestic production oil- finite supply, mainly not ours voila, the future. __________________ My Former Rides 1999 318ti Alpine White, Cali Roof, Dinan goodies 1996 318ti Hellrot California Edition | | | 03-27-2009, 06:36 PM | #10 | Senior Member Join Date: Aug 2006 Location: central ct Posts: 503 | finiality aside, you're failing to understand that probably 99% of todays electricity generation is a by product of oil. oil fuels the trucks (greenhouse) that diggs the coal that burns (greenhouse) to make the electricity. oil fuels the trucks that brought the wind mills to the middle of no where. On top of that, hydro/wind/solar/nuclear etc are all FAR off the grid right now to coal in terms of production of electricity. Coal is probably 90% or more of the USA's power generation. further, batteries are HORRIBLE for the environment. What do you do with them when they are spent? You gotta take it ALL the way up the 'food chain'. __________________ 2010 Genesis Coupe 2.0t track | 2000 Dakota Former 1995 318ti owner | | | 03-27-2009, 07:37 PM | #11 | Senior Member Join Date: Apr 2007 Location: Elizabeth City, NC Posts: 3,877 | I'm thinking that Hydrogen is the future. Electricity just doesn't offer the range most people want from a car. To really get a new fuel going there has to be a seamless transition from oil to the new fuel. I think hydrogen is the best answer for that right now. Like Pauly said, check out the FCX Clarity, besides an awesome TG episode, it is an awesome car. __________________ ~Dave~ 98 328ti Morea Grun slicktop 11 128i space gray slicktop 13 JGC WK2 Deep Cherry Search | RealOEM | | | 03-28-2009, 12:20 AM | #12 | Senior Member Join Date: Sep 2007 Location: asdfasdf Posts: 10,002 | Quote: Originally Posted by briansol further, batteries are HORRIBLE for the environment. And oddly enough the large draglines that clear the topsoil are electric powered. They literally run a whole new power grid for these things that are like moving buildings (my brother designs/engineers them). And you didn't say anything about coal initially you said oil. I guess what I'm thinking is that electricity does not care where it comes from and there is a grid already installed. But yup, batteries are a problem. Good thing Lithium Ion batts are much much more earth friendly than Nicad, etc. And if these really do power cars do you think people will individually dispose of them? Not a chance, it will be done thru dealers. Electricity vs. H2? Not sure about that. __________________ My Former Rides 1999 318ti Alpine White, Cali Roof, Dinan goodies 1996 318ti Hellrot California Edition | | | 03-28-2009, 06:27 AM | #14 | Senior Member Join Date: Aug 2006 Location: central ct Posts: 503 | im all for going back to a horse and buggie __________________ 2010 Genesis Coupe 2.0t track | 2000 Dakota Former 1995 318ti owner | | | 03-28-2009, 06:33 AM | #15 | Senior Member Join Date: Jun 2003 Location: Saint Paul, MN Posts: 3,244 | yeah but i'd still be tempted to modify it in some way __________________ My Former Rides 1999 318ti Alpine White, Cali Roof, Dinan goodies 1996 318ti Hellrot California Edition | | | | | Currently Active Users Viewing This Thread: 1 (0 members and 1 guests) | | Posting Rules | You may not post new threads You may not post replies You may not post attachments You may not edit your posts HTML code is Off | | | |
