I wonder how it fell. I haven't hit any pot holes or otherwise bottomed out the car lately. __________________ | | | 01-19-2009, 01:20 AM | #4 | Senior Member Join Date: Jan 2008 Location: New Orleans Posts: 970 | most likely the bolts just backed out because someone didnt tighten them properly, had anything under there replaced recently? __________________ ^being rebuilt^ until then: daily car: 96' Blue DASC'd ti with koni coilovers slowly progressing... weekend car: 85 1/2' 944 Porsche no a/c, p/s, gutted cat, loud as hell exhaust, loud as hell sound system | | | 01-19-2009, 01:36 AM | #5 | Senior Member Join Date: Jul 2008 Location: Rensselaer, NY Posts: 254 | Not since I've owned the car no. __________________ | | | 01-19-2009, 01:45 AM | #6 | Senior Member Join Date: Apr 2007 Location: Elizabeth City, NC Posts: 3,877 | I'd just say rocks and crap thrown off the road will mess it up. Some of the bolts holding mine on have torn through the heat shield. If you get under there you can probably find some way to keep it up and in place. __________________ ~Dave~ 98 328ti Morea Grun slicktop 11 128i space gray slicktop 13 JGC WK2 Deep Cherry Search | RealOEM | | | 01-19-2009, 02:02 AM | #7 | Senior Member Join Date: Sep 2007 Location: asdfasdf Posts: 10,002 | yup, heat shield, the same thing's hanging down on my ti, I'm just too lazy to put it back up it's just rusted to the point that the bolt's pulled through, just put a couple self-tapping screws in PS, anyone know if there would be any negative effects from removing it completely? | | | 01-19-2009, 02:45 AM | #8 | Senior Member Join Date: Jul 2008 Location: Rensselaer, NY Posts: 254 | Isn't the heat shield resting on the exhaust the way its hanging down like that? I'd be worried to drive it too much in that state Pauly. __________________ | | | 01-19-2009, 03:04 AM | #9 | Senior Member Join Date: Aug 2004 Location: state college, pa Posts: 3,431 | The heat shield corrodes around the bolt. Just use a thin but wide washer underneath the bolt. __________________ I scream, you scream, we all scream for ZOMBIES. | | | 01-20-2009, 04:56 AM | #10 | Senior Member Join Date: Jul 2008 Location: Rensselaer, NY Posts: 254 | So I go over to my dad's house today so I can lift the car and re-affix the heat shield (which went fine) and my passenger side front caliper starts locking up, so now that need to be replaced. I tell ya, with these cars, when it rains, it pours. =( __________________ | | | | Currently Active Users Viewing This Thread: 1 (0 members and 1 guests) | | Posting Rules | You may not post new threads You may not post replies You may not post attachments You may not edit your posts HTML code is Off | | | |
