Has anyone seen this thing in their right from engine bay area? I found this kind of dangling down the other day, un plugged. I am guessing it may go to the missing alarm on my car. I deduce this because the other tie in is also sitting there unconnected about where the alarm normally is installed. Any help is appreciated. | | | 12-22-2013, 04:57 PM | #2 | Senior Member Join Date: Aug 2013 Location: NJ Posts: 373 | Ambient temp sensor. __________________ 2000 M5 -> 1996 318ti -> 1997 328i Instagram: ndrewchow YouTube: MINIzguy | | | 12-23-2013, 01:48 AM | #3 | Senior Member Join Date: Sep 2007 Location: asdfasdf Posts: 10,002 | Quote: Originally Posted by MINIz guy Ambient temp sensor. | yup, should clip into a hole in one of the brake cooling ducts, if the ducts are missing you can just zip-tie it up | | | 12-23-2013, 01:22 PM | #4 | Member Join Date: Nov 2013 Location: tn Posts: 49 | Well, I thought the air temp sender was a longer pointy thing? I also thought it was on the drivers side and not the passengers side? Are we sure we are thinking about the same critter? Thanks in advance. | | | 12-23-2013, 06:28 PM | #5 | Senior Member Join Date: Jan 2006 Location: Cincinnati Posts: 890 | Quote: Originally Posted by mharvey73 Well, I thought the air temp sender was a longer pointy thing? If it helps I have found two other cut wires on the drivers side. Of course with the history of this car it is missing the valanc/air dam panel that mounts to the lower skirt. I guess that is why my brake duct is missing too. | | | 12-24-2013, 05:47 AM | #7 | Senior Member Join Date: Oct 2008 Location: Los Angeles, CA Posts: 1,464 | IIRC, the puck/disc sensor you show in your first photo is the air temp. sensor located in the passenger side brake duct and is the one that feeds ambient air temp. info. to the DME. The longer, pointy yellow sensor located in the driver side brake duct is the air temp. sensor that feeds ambient air temp. info. to the OBC. If your car does not have an OBC, it shouldn't have this second sensor. __________________ 1995 318ti Base - Cosmosschwarz/Sandgrau R.I.P. 1997 318ti Active - Alpinweiß III/Sandgrau 2013 328i Coupe - Le Mans Blau | | | 12-24-2013, 11:27 AM | #8 | Member Join Date: Nov 2013 Location: tn Posts: 49 | Thanks again for the help. That ends that scooby doo mystery. Another site had said in another discussion, that it was part of the heated windshield washer system. I suppose it was to automatically heat the fluid depending on the outside temperature. My car is equipped with on board computer and antitheft alarm, but there is not one system on this car that 100%. Everything is missing at least one thing. Its amazing what people do to cars. | | | | Currently Active Users Viewing This Thread: 1 (0 members and 1 guests) | | Posting Rules | You may not post new threads You may not post replies You may not post attachments You may not edit your posts HTML code is Off | | | |
