Default Crank Shaft Sensor

Hi guys, i have a 1999 318ti compaq and when driving the engine cuts out for literally 1 second and cuts back in. it done it once last year and coz it never happened again i never thought anything of it. now its pretty much constant when the engine gets a little warmer. I'm no expert on cars and the research i done via google has pointed to the Crank Shaft Sensor. I have ordered a new one which has now arrived.

Does anyone have any info on installation of this. i really am no good with mechanics, lol.

The engine cut out is so random, on my 6 mile journey it can cut out once or it can be 8 times. theres no really pattern as to speed or how much im revving the car.

thank you in advance.

Were you searching google with a particular CEL code or just by the symptom of random engine shutdown?
Is the CEL even ON?
If it is, have it scanned first before throwing parts. It can get frustrating and expensive too.

My car does that cut off for a 1/2 second about 1-3 times on a 30 mile trip. Mine is the MAF sensor signal wire (confirmed by LM-2 hard wire and CEL code. I'm pretty lazy since it had the bad connection for about two months. No I don't smoke pot just super lazy for the past 3 years.

My car did that a couple of times on a long trip, but the crank sensor was relatively new. When I got home I cleaned up around where the sensor sits and it never happened again. I think it was dirt/oily mixed stuff dropping in between the sensor and the teeth it reads. The hard part about replacing that sensor is running the wiring. I think it plugs in somewhere under the intake. I think I took out my alternator so I could get under there.
