I purchased the car (95 318ti) used and there doesn't appear to be any drivetrain modifications. Does anyone have any suggestions? | | | 04-13-2007, 04:22 AM | #2 | Senior Member Join Date: Feb 2005 Location: Richmond Hill, GA Posts: 1,231 | Quote: Originally Posted by hridge06 My speedometer is reading around 5mph faster than I'm actually going. All speedometers have a percent error, and Cars are required to show the % error on the higher side (to prevent people that are unaware of the error from speeding). If your reading 50mph your probably actually doing 49mph or so. It depends on other factors too, but this is a small reason why your speedo might be not so accurate | | | 04-13-2007, 04:43 AM | #4 | Senior Member Join Date: Jun 2003 Location: Greenville, SC Posts: 9,356 | BMWs always read higher. __________________ ...steven BMW CCA #146825 1996 BMW 328ti • 2003 MINI Cooper S • 2016 M235i www.bmwcca.org | | | 04-13-2007, 04:45 AM | #5 | Senior Member Join Date: May 2006 Location: Memphis, Tn Posts: 1,299 | mine reads over more. i noticed when i passed one of those speed readers that is set up by cops and it told me i was going slower than what my speedo told me i was doing. only off by maybe one or two miles __________________ custom dual exhaust,M3 front and rear bumper, 10.4 inch roof mount drop screen, Viper alarm system, DSII's rims, M3 Vader Seats, M3 Mirrors, Carbon Fiber CAI, Smoked Corners, Side Markers, Leatherz armrests, black grilles 225k miles and still the Ti goes on | | | 04-14-2007, 12:51 AM | #6 | Senior Member Join Date: Nov 2004 Location: Bremerhaven, Germany Posts: 977 | Quote: Originally Posted by Micaoct | It helps and is a fun read, but their explanation blaming European law for grossly overreading speedometers on some German imports is bogus. They feared some would slap on larger outside diameter tires that would otherwise cause the speedometer to underread. I happened to be discussing this issue with a German engineer yesterday, and why the speedometers on European E36s are more accurate and can all use the same "K-factor". | | | 04-14-2007, 01:20 AM | #7 | Z3 Join Date: Jun 2003 Location: Usa Posts: 660 | The interesting part is that the car knows the true speed.. (it can be displayed in the AVG speed on the OBC). Try it. Set the cruise to 60 on a flat road. Reset the AVG speed. Drive one minute. Your avg speed will be 58.x.. The AVG speed thing does work. I've synchronized it via GPS a few times. It's kind of annoying though as for some reason the MPG calculator relies on the indicated speed on the speedo. | | | 04-14-2007, 06:11 AM | #11 | Senior Member Join Date: Nov 2004 Location: Lincoln Park Capitol Hill, Washington DC Posts: 741 | Quote: Originally Posted by hridge06 My speedometer is reading around 5mph faster than I'm actually going. Mine's of because I'm wearing 225 45 16 instead of 225 50 16 on 16x7 wheels. My speedo always reads 5 miles higher. __________________ It's always a great day to be underwater and play with the fish.....preserve our oceans and reefs" Fariz 1997 318ti, Hellrot (Bright Red), Dinan Stage 2 Chip 16x7 OEM sport Wheels/X-Brace/Custom Strut Brace/Cold Air Intake/M-Tec Steering Wheel/Koni Adjustable FrontShocks/ Bilstein Sport Rear Shocks /H&R Sport Springs/Custom fabricated strut tower brace/Rear Strut brace, Stromung Exhaust Future Mods: E46 17" wheels or Kosei K-1 17x8.5s | | | 04-14-2007, 08:48 AM | #12 | Senior Member Join Date: Nov 2004 Location: Bremerhaven, Germany Posts: 977 | Quote: Originally Posted by Bozola The interesting part is that the car knows the true speed....Weird huh?? | American lawyer-ing. | | | | Currently Active Users Viewing This Thread: 1 (0 members and 1 guests) | | Posting Rules | You may not post new threads You may not post replies You may not post attachments You may not edit your posts HTML code is Off | | | |
