I could have sworn someone once sent me a diagram of a BMW-marketed block heater if I can only remember where I saved it. However, I would think a less expensive and less specific unit would work just fine on an M44.

What I know BMW does market and sell in Europe are 5 kW, gasoline-fueled auxiliary heating systems which would untether the car from the electricity grid. I have know idea how effective they would be at -40.

P.S. I found the mail message, from February 2002, mentioning the BMW block heater with an attached TIFF in case I needed part numbers. It appears I deleted the the scan to save disk space. I will ask my correspondent if he still has it.
