The tank is made of plastic and the corrosion maybe came off from the fuel pump/fuel gauge floaters. Check on both side, the left side and the right side. There are two options: 1.Remove the tank and drain upside down. 2. Open both to the opening and try to suck the most fuel and corrosion you can get. When I cleaned the tank of my project car, I took the second option and I found where the corrosion came from. And I replaced the fuel filter after. About the crud fuel, I have some story to tell, when I was deploy somewhere and we have a commercial vehicle (not the issue one - military), one of our man filled up with crud fuel, the vehicle start but it shut down after a few minutes. Our vehicle should only take unleaded fuel not like the military issue vehicle takes everything. If you car have crud, I think your car will not run anymore. Good luck.
