Sounds like you need to bleed the system again. What works very good for me is having the car on ramps.: this makes the bleeding screw the highest point in the system (although it's supposed to be also on a flat surface, having the car on ramps makes it faster & easier). Make sure you put the heater at the highest temperature setting with the fan at max speed. Do not step on the gas while the bleeding screw is off or you'll spray water everywhere (ask me how I know... ehehehe)

In case the water pump brakes, here's described a possible way to remove it.
