As most of you know, aftermarket CAI's offer little to no performance gains/improvement on the M42/M44 engines. They only offer a greater risk of hydro-locking your engine by sucking in water due to poor design and placement near the ground where water is easily splashed onto the filter. I personally know a few people in the SoCal 318ti community alone that have killed their engines due to hydro-lock caused by aftermarket CAI's. Those are just friends of mine and I'm sure that there's more than 4 cases of this happening on this forum. Nothing anyone has to say can change my opinion of how worthless aftermarket CAI's are when used on a NA M42/M44. Unless you have a before and after dyno chart showing significant gains, your argument is null. IMO, 5hp is not significant when combined with the risk of destroying your 138hp 4 banger. The factory airbox supplies more than enough CLEAN air for the stock M42/M44 fuel injection system. Unless you're running larger fuel injectors, MAF and software (and perhaps a blower or turbocharger), you won't "feel" an increase in performance. You may "feel" your foot getting heavier so you could hear air passing through a filter, but the "butt dyno" phenomenon is simply in your head.
Some of you may have thought it was a good idea to replace your factory airbox with an aftermarket intake and many of you may have purchased a molested Ti in which the previous owner rigged up some ghetto ass Home Depot mod. I don't know about most of you, but personally when I pop the hood on a used car and see a cheap aftermarket intake attached to a stock MAF on a normally aspirated 4cyl engine, I just laugh and walk away. Whichever the case, I'm offering you the opportunity to restore your fine-tuned Bavarian engineered machine back to it's originally designed state of being. That being said,

Up for sale is a factory intake, designed by BMW for the 1.9L M44 engine. It can be adapted to accomodate the M42 AFM. This intake has a factory hose that attaches to the nose panel where it SAFELY receives COLD AIR from the front of the vehicle. Also included are the upper and lower shrouds to protect and further shield the foam insulated air tube from heat/damage. This particular intake system was removed from my '97 318ti Sport when I upgraded to the M3 S52b32 3.2L engine. As you can see in the pics, this system is clean, complete and in excellent condition.
