There's also a rubber profile gasket that's sandwiched between the chain case and the underside of the head. It's ends mate with the "half rectangle" gasket that you replaced. Sometimes, that juncture can be a problem area. Also, if you removed the carrier that the rear seal sits in, sometimes the sealing of the carrier when it goes back in can be problematic.
