it is even worse if you have a medium case diff, i have done it a few times and the first time i had to bend the rubber engine mounts to line up with the subframe holes and they both broke after about 50 miles of driving, i also had to bend the gear stick as i could not get 2nd and 4th gear. if you can get the prop to shift to the rear a bit the centre bearing can move towards the rear making enough room. i did my 4th 328 conversion into a 318 on friday evening / saturday morning and it has a medium case diff but i managed to find a (20mm) shorter front half of the prop which allowed everything to bolt up in the right place. i also fitted a 325i manifold with a remap and it is an excellent conversion and well worth doing
