Turn key to start,
Starter spins quickly, but solenoid doesn't engage,
remove key,
STARTER KEEPS RUNNING!!

I have to pull the positive battery cable, to get it to stop. The starter sometimes starts spinning again immediately when the battery cable is applied, and sometimes not.

When it doesn't start running again, as soon as I try try and start the car with the key, the starter if off to the races again, and remains that way until I remove the battery cable.

The starter is a month old. Replaced by me.

Any ideas here? Bad starter? Bad relay?
