No, that hose is absolutely correct- intake air hose for M44. As E36 TI-M stated, it's missing the plastic protective cover that hides it, as partially shown in the photo below:
EDIT: Oops- the arrow is actually pointing to the cover section that you still have- there's obviously another plastic piece that you're missing, I just don't have a photo readily available to show for comparison.
