Well I talked with my dad a bit and despite the fact that the engine works we decided we should sell it as if it were a rolling shell. This is because repairing or replacing the auto transmission (if that is indeed the problem and not the differential) is too expensive for most people. A manual transmission would probably be a cheaper replacement, but I didn't look into that.
Regardless, my previous offer of first $1500 takes it home has now been rescinded.
