The only thing I would add is to get it inspected...

The only thing I would add is to get it inspected just in case there are any gremlins in store. On a car of this condition and age it'll be worth it.

Other than that, sounds like a peach.

It's the black strip of plastic just above the exhaust pipe that runs the width of the tailgate.

Well, my 318ti started losing power under acceleration on the motorway.

So I pull over to the hard shoulder and call the AA.

AA man's verdict? Catalytic converter is knackered.

Get towed...
