Use a screwdriver to take off the retaining clip...

Use a screwdriver to take off the retaining clip on top of the old strut. After that, you should be able to pull it out very easily. It's a ball system, similar to a trailer hitch.

I never in 2 years heard my fan turn on no matter how hot it was, until one day I turned my car fully off, and then turned my car into the ON (not start) position. You should try that first.

Change your catalytic converter if it's never been changed. Made a HUGE difference for me... used to get about 28.5 mpg with mostly highway driving. Now im about 33.5 mpg.
