I changed the tensioner 2 weeks ago in my car to stop the TAPPING noise, and it was still there, I was 100% sure it was a tappet/lifter, done some searching aroung my engine bay and found my exhasut...

Jumped in my car this morning to go and do the manifold gasket replacecemnt, started the car got 10 yards and car cut out....wouldnt start again....no sparks....ABSOLUTELY hammering down with rain...

I havn't tried it with a stethoscope, but I have tried the old fashion way :biggrin:,with my ear against a screw driver and it seems pretty hard to determine where it is with all the other noises...

Is it a case of removing all spark plugs and rotating on the crank nut with a socket and bar???

Would my blown manifold gasket create this noise?

Guys, Can I remove my rocker cover on my 95 318ti and run it for a few minutes without the cover on?
I want to do this to try and have a look what is going on in there and see if I can pick up what...

The noise is defenately coming from the front of the car....if I gradually rev the car while in neutral then I cannot hear it as bad if at all....if I push my foot down hard so the revs shoot up...

I cannot hear it on idle but as soon as I start driving the faster I go the louder it gets....

When ever I hit the brakes it usaually make a knocking noise once, but some times I have heard it twice as if what ever is happening is happening on both discs...

On that diagram the trailing arms look alot different than the ones on my car....There is no sign of the trailing...

Looking at the bushes from the outside of my car they look pretty worn....will these fail the MOT? or will it be the trailing arm bushes that the garage is refering to?
