Heating does not work

Hi,

I have a small problem on my 1995 BMW 318i.
The heating is not working anymore. When I turn it on only cold air is coming out.

What do you guys think i need to fix.

Thanks

Woofy

there was a recent thread on this problem. try looking through the titles of the last 20 or so threads in the HVAC section and you should pull it up. i think it was originally started by Severian.

Hi, I've been reading those threads to find my answer before trying to post. I'm going to put coolant into my car...because it is low. I want to check the thermostat to see if it is stuck open, however how will I know it open or not, will it be obvious to me..
Thanks, new owner and amateur
( want to be able to help my husband when he works on it)

Stuck open will be obvious.
When I had a stuck open t-stat my water temp gauge was always below center when it was cold out and driving at a moderate speed. If you are going to pull out the t-stat, I always replace any gaskets that were removed.

and make sure you use coolant without phosphates! if you don't know what to look for, just go to BMW to get the coolant. you do not want to mix types or put in coolant with phosphates ... bad for the cooling system.

Thank you.
I'm heading to BMW this morning for the coolant.
