160 000 km should I change timing chain?

I just purchased a used engine with 160 000 km on it and no records or tests done on the engine for $1000 and I am wondering if the timing chain should be changed now to prevent future destruction of the engine.

My previous engine went within 2 weeks of owning my ti with no clue except a broken oil pan and the sound of my timing chain crumbling away moments before my engine shut off forever...

Does anybody have any other advice as for what to tune up on the engine to prevent bigger future problems?

if it makes u feel better then do it.

Remeber to change the tensioner and the skid runner also, otherwise its only half a job ;)

The chain under normal conditions usually lasts the duration of the cars life (500,000 kms)

wow really? 500 000km? I was going to just get this car running well and sell it for the 5000 I paid for it because im so worried about the reliablility as the engine went 2 weeks after purchase from an owner who does not seem like the type to race it hard.

I am tight on cash so if the extra 1000 could be saved i would like to refrain from the new timing chain.

Thanks for the reply. Do you think realistically my car would last me for another 100 000 km without major ($2000+) problems?

ive got 280k on mine now, and had it on a rolling road 1 month ago, it still reaches the factory standard of 104hp
