Anyone Know About Heat Seaters????

So. My problem is that my switch for my heated seats goes out. Like when i turn on the heated seats it would turn off within 10seconds. At first I thought I accidently turned it off but when i hit the switch again i stared at it and it turned off on its own. I already replaced the switch once, and have another one to use. however i dont want to keep buying used switches for a quick fix (which i thought it was a permenant fix in the first place). Where would i first look to resolve the issue? Anyone know?

there is a thermo static sensor on the heating "net" .

if there is a malfunction it will switch off before burning a hole in your seat.

ill see if i can find you a repair page on the BMW service CD ;)

i will get back to on this, but ive got to be at my Aunty´s by 2 pm

Really? dang. That'd be sweet if you can look it up for me. I'd GREATLY appreciate it. i like the heated seats, especially in the cold nights.

all i can tell you is

you may need to separate the seat covering from the foam (seat and back unfortunately)

then separate the heat matrix from the covering

Check for breaks.

If found, try to re connect the break.

if not possible, you will need part numbers

try disconnecting and measure for continuity and resistance? perhaps compare to passenger side (which i assume is working?).

The bottom and back heating elements connect to the switch harness using two separate plugs underneath the seat. Try disconnecting one at a time to see if the switch will work correctly with one, but not the other. If it does, then you need to replace the one element that causes the switch to shut off.

Replacing an element isn't terribly difficult, but it is time consuming. They are located between the seat foam and the upholstery which are connected together with hog rings. Besides the replacement element, you just need basic hand tools (sockets, wrenches, screwdrivers), side-cut pliers (to cut off the old hog rings), hog ring pliers (to install the new hog rings) and a ~20 hog rings per seat section.
