Auto 101

I'm not much of a mechanic, so I'm looking for advice please.

I have the 98 318ti M sport

I just had my suspension checked and the mechanic told me that my left rear shock is bad and my front struts are leaking.

If I purchased a set of billstein coilovers would that basically be all that i need for the repairs? Could i purchase billstein shocks and another companies springs? If so, would i need to replace anything else?

I'm probably going to purchase everything on my own and have my mechanic do the work.

Thanks in advance!

Why are you changing the springs? Are they bad?
Struts are surprising easy to replace.

And why coilovers?
Unless you are going to corner balance the car, I see no reason to spend that kind of money.

get a kit from H&R or something instead if you want to lower your stance a little. bilsteins are expensive but worth the money if you are doing performance or spirited driving.
