Exhaust option OK Swap guys. I'm ready to start looking at the exhaust again. Currently I have a bobbed M3 muffler in place. It is very mellow, and rather heavy... I was toying with the idea of running straight pipe from the cats and welding on the original M3 tips. I already have the 323ti rear diffuser and heat shield built up and ready to install once I finally put the exhaust to bed. Anyway, I found this: https://1c2a8a2161d644d95009-22d26b3...s/787813-1.jpg And was wondering if anyone here has any experience with it. Specifically lengths and fitment under the ti. I welcome any other comments too! |
I plan on playing with the 2.8 and M54 Z3 Magnaflow systems. I'm hopeful these can be easily and simply lengthened somewhere in the middle for a relatively perfect fit. |
I believe the cat-back section works. My information (which is second hand) indiates the Z3 3.0i rear muffler is a drop-in on the ti, and has two inlets and outlets. It also uses the ti mounting locations. Plug-n-play. But it is heavy and quiet like the stock ti muffler. The 3.2 is fairly tame coming out of the cats alone so I was just going to run straight pipe. By the way, and luck on those motor mounts? |

I had no idea that the z3 3.0i rear muffler was plug and play. Bimmerbum or J!m post up once you figure out something. I am using the stock m3 midsection with a stock dual pipe end part that got welded 2 to 1 with a super quiet mangaflow muffler. Definitely not optimal. |
I would prefer to run a single pipe set up to keep things simple and lighter. The Z3 2.8 Magnaflow set up is a single pipe system with dual tips. This is the back half section, there is also a catted front section that bolts to stock manifolds (or shorty headers). If I'm very lucky I can just add a little section between the front and back half and be done. http://shop.bimmerbum.com/products/3...-exhaust-16712 |
Yes. The 2.8 version is single pipe and the 3.0 is dual. I think the E46 330 rear section can be modified too. Have to check my manual where I have all that compiled... |

ZHP aside, all E46 M54 systems are the same. All E46 M52tu systems are the same. All Z3 M54 systems are the same. All Z3 M52tu systems are the same. The Z3 M52tu also has a one piece system that is single pipe. The M52 Z3s have a single pipe system that is 2 pieces. All M52tu and M54 cars have the cats in the exhaust manifolds and M52/S52 cars have the cats in the mid section. |
Thanks for sharing! I will most likely keep my chopped together exhaust for now, but Bimmerbum if you can get the z3 2.8 system working with a simple section added, I am sure you will have interest for that. I know in the future I would definitely be interested. |
I personally like the sound of Z3 2.8 Magnaflow exhaust system. It is moderately loud. |
