Baby Seat

Hi, I have a 96 318ti, I live in australia (if it makes any difference)

I am in need of a baby seat, I haven't had a look around, but can a baby seat be fitted in the back of the ti. I see no where to attach one?

help please

there are no specific mounting points in the back of the ti for car seats, per se. you could use the factory harness attachment points, but then you're out of a belt if you need one.

my suggestion is to pull the seat out (lift from the forward edge, it'll pop right out) and see if you can get longer bolts and attach brackets to where the seatbelts attach at the lowest point. you could also easily go behind the seat on the belt side and use the trunk tie down. but, i don't think this is the safest bet.

EDIT: some seats (i still believe this is done) can just be buckled in. i would start there before mucking around with modifications.

Your best bet is to use a baby seat that is held in with the seatbelt (rear facing) You can only use it in the back because the shape of the seat in the front are not safe for a car seat. We use one of those three in one travel systems (buggy, carry seat and car seat in one). im sure they have them in Oz. Im in England and got mine at a shop called "mothercare", sure you have an equivalent down there!

Just to clear something up, if you have a front passenger airbag you must not under any circumstances use a child/baby seat in the front passenger seat unless the passenger airbag can be disabled.
The child seat that uses exsisting adult restraints in the rear seats are the best option for you it would appear.

Best regards David

I put both an infant car seat (<30lb) and toddler (<65lb) seat in my ti at different times and used the seat belt to lock it in. Fits OK, getting her in/out was no worse than a 4 door if your back is in working order. The only option is to see if there is a retro fit kit for the LATCH system where there is a bar bolted directly to the car body between the lower seat and upper seat back. All cars in the US after 1999 came with them (I think). We are having them retro fit into our 1999 VW Passat for free.

Cali-ti- how on earth did you find a child seat for out ti? That's amazing! I went to Real OEM but it seems like you cannot order or speak to anyone. Is it just a part database at the moment that I should go to the dealer w/ a part #?

lol ... 'cause i'm becoming master of the ETK! :p yes, you would need to go to a dealer with the part number(s).
