Rear cover / deck shelf with sunshade some damage Hi, I have a rear shelf out of a 95 ti for sale. The passenger rear corner is damaged on it however. Also needs a new string hanger on the left side. http://prussianmotors.com/eBay/318ti...04-AM51904.jpg http://prussianmotors.com/eBay/318ti...05-AM51904.jpg http://prussianmotors.com/eBay/318ti...08-AM51904.jpg http://prussianmotors.com/eBay/318ti...06-AM51904.jpg http://prussianmotors.com/eBay/318ti...07-AM51904.jpg http://prussianmotors.com/eBay/318ti...09-AM51904.jpg I'm not sure how much this is worth. Never seen one with the sunshade before. Pretty cool! |
Yea me neither.. It is cool! I dont know how much they go for. I was looking for one and couldn't find it. Never went to the dealer(don't need it that bad). Have you tried fixing those little things? I think you won't get as much if it's in that condition... Just saying |
I repaired similar, but not as extensive, damage on my rear shelf fairly easily. The fading can be dealt with using fabric dye. I used 2-part epoxy to repair the broken plastic. You won't be able to get it back to "like new" condition since the fabric covering is ripped, but you can make it a LOT better. As for the broken string... you might be able to replace it with another similar piece of string with a simple bowline knot in one end. I haven't checked, but I assume that you can get the string off by removing the screw that's in the plastic part where it connects to the shelf. |
I didnt think of fabric dye. The other thing is, you can wrap it up in leather once its solid and no cracks.. it'd be really nice too... matching interior color ;) |
No need to bother with fabric dye. Just go to the nearest craft store (your wife/girlfriend will know where it is), and buy some black fabric PAINT. Just spray it on, wait an hour for it to dry, and voila--like new rear deck. |
You call it paint, I call it dye... whatever. LOL I painted/dyed mine not long ago. I thought I started a thread about it, but maybe I posted pix in another thread. I'll look for that info. EDIT - here's the thread about painting your cargo shelf. |
I did mine with spray paint.. hehe do it your way cuz mine wasnt soft when you touch it.. i took it off though cuz i tried doing the bmw logo and messed it up. gonna get that paint and do it again. I did my sub box with paint and its fine though.. I dont know what's the difference between the two fabrics.. |
I *think* you can buy a new hook & string from BMW. The shelf is $347 list price. |
IIRC Tony posted up you can get them new for $150 from the dealer, but it doesn't have the sunshade. |
Correct, the non-sunshade rear shelf is about $150 from BMW. However this part lists for $347. |
Damn such big difference! Good to know the price though.. |
$100 shipped, any takers?? |
What is the name of this part? I have searched everywhere online but I can't find one new(or used but not damaged). |
BMW part number is 51 46 2 268 849 and it's called a rear window shelf with sun blind. 318ti specific parts are not in abundance online...at least in the US anyway. |
