headunit install
 

Guys,

Just picked up a ti last week. removed the cd palyer that was in there and have put my own kenwood mask unit in. (good job the faceplate angle is adjustable, cos you cant read the display with it in the normal position) anyways, i had quite a job getting all the wires in there. Its proper tight isnt it?

I have now got it to go back and lock in place, but i intend to fit my changer and and amp in the car and wondered if you guys had any tips on fitting it all in. I had the glovebox out, but still couldnt get my hands up to behind the headunit.

My head unit has lying leads for rca's, changer, and aerial. what with the beemer to iso,iso to crimps and crimps to kenwood loom, i have already filled up the tiny space behind the headunit.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

It's pretty tight back there, but you should still be able to run a few RCA cables for the changer and amp. Although I don't have a changer or amp, I did a test fit with RCAs just to make sure it would work and I managed to get everything to fit.

It's tight but it does all fit. I fitted a Alpine headunit with two sets of RCA leads & ISO connector, took bloody ages to get all the wires tucked away but it can be done. I managed to prise out the centre dash vents which makes it easier to route all the cables. Good luck!

Ah, center dash vents. Are they easy to remove? without damaging the dash?

Halek, did you get projector front lights? i want to get xenons again ( had them in my e36 saloon) but not sure if i should get projectors for the ti. i am not interested in halos, so thought about getting saloon headlights(maybe changing the internals?).

I know dakar peril has xenons, perhaps i will mail him, and see what he thinks.

The dash vents are not easy to get out but they will just pop out with persuasion. I managed to get a thin piece of plastic between the dash & vent & eased it gently out.Dont use a screwdriver or anything like that or you will probably damage something.

My headlights are the stock euro elipsoids which have halogen projector dipped beams as standard. I was going to de-lens them when I fitted the halo's as they do look the buisness without the diffuser. I'm getting some gen6 ccfl halos soon so I might do it then.

What year is your car Halek, mine has not got projectors. Got to go to the dealers tomorrow, so will have a look on the parts computer.
De lensin does look good, nice and modern.

Flat piece of metal for the dash? i'm thinking steel rule? The dash in the van testifies to even gentle use of a flat blade. DOH!

my car's a 2000 on a w but I thought all euro E36's had elipsoids.
I only realised they were projectors after I took them to bits to fit the angels,the diffuser lens covers the projector so they look like traditional lights.

After finding out it was different was it harder to put in? Did you have to seal anything? Did you have to do any modifications?

Not sure I understand your question, was what harder to put in?
I just dismantled the lights, fitted halos & put them back together.

No, I didn't seal them with anything as the rubber/foam that seals the frount glass to the headlight body looked to be in pretty good condition. I suppose you could run a thin bead of silicone around there if your worried about condensation but I've never had a problem.

i'm gonna go look at my headlights more closely. if they've got projectors in, i'm ,laughing. i will then have to decide on 5000k or 6000k for the xenons.

I dont think all UK compacts had projectors but mine has

go to gsf, get bosch units for the saloon which fit for £200 a set. if only i had checked before i ordered mine!!! :anger:
