Navigation system

Im thinking about retrofitting a navigation system into my car. I like to drive a lot and always take the long way from point a to b. Soon i plan to go on a few road trips and was wondering...should i get a navigation system? It would be really nice to have and i think it would improve the quality of my interior not to mention ill have more options on what i can do with my system; I.E. ipod, satelite radio, dvd, tv, gps, and much more.

What do you guys think??? Should i go for it, or no.

I personally think it's dumb and won't look good in the ti. Do you really need it besides the show off factor?

Bluebimma 08-17-2006 09:58 PM

It's really not necessary, but i do travel a lot and i personally think its easier on road trips than having a piece of paper and maps. Yes, it is also a show off factor, never hurts.

im going to get, and i still want to get one day a....In Dash DvD player with a built in Navigation system (that way i dont have to pay for service.) If i could, i would like to get dvd/navigation/cd and with TV tuner all in one. Ive only seen either dvd with tv tuner or dvd with navigation. But not all 3 in one. I would prefer dvd with navigation. Ill buy it when it goes down to 1,300 dollars. Ive seen one in best buy, really nice but 2k.

I would not retro fit a GPS, instead look at a Garmin that can be moved from car to car.

I think the Nav we have in our MINI sucks compared to a Garmin.
Only nice thing about it is that it's built in.
The Nav for E36s clipped in the vent. There was never a kit for the ti.

Get a portable one. that way if you have multiple cars you can use it in all of them. They really come in handy more often than you'd expect. soon you will wonder how you lived without it.

+1

A portable unit isn't bait for car prowlers either.
It can be hid when not needed.

The in dash monitor would have a detachable faceplate, so hiding it wouldnt be a problem.

pdxmotorhead 08-18-2006 07:18 PM

But even with a removable face plate you can see the fact that its there (On most of them anyway) and that advertises
that there may be other Geekery in the car.
