Someone here to use your e36 compact drift?
He wondered whether the e36 compact drift is better than a e36 sedan or Coupe?
Anyone have experience drift?

it can be done, the sedan or coupe is likely a better platform though due to the greater available of spare parts and upgrades

i'll be doing a ground up drift build of a 95 ti over the next couple of months. will be completed in time for the 2011 Formula Drift Pro-Am season competition. I'm just coming out of a 97 318i sedan, that was caged and the suspension was setup only still on the stock 1.9L 4 cylinder. parted out the 318i after an accident on track and doing a ti now by choice. looking forward to breaking new ground (and i'm sure a lot of parts along the way)

power will be my aristo 2jzgte engine.

sedan and coupes also a better plateform because of the spread wheel base. it your "building" a track care your more than likely ditchin your m block for m42/4 for a m50/2 or s50/2. a ti drift car isnt bad smaller wheel base means harder to get your tail end to fly the other way but its more the driver than the car. driftings fun, and im deff subscribing to a build thread if you make one.

The wheelbase is the same on all E36s

very true.. ^^^ hadnt thought of that but 2/4dr m3 skirts are bolt ons to the ti so it has to be.

i have been drifting for nearly 10 yrs, driving anything from miatas to corollas to s13s to my gs300 for 7yrs alone. its all in how you set it up. i'm expecting the ti to be twitchy with almost zero rear overhang, but will counter it by sitting the engine as deep and far toward center as plausible, also it will basically be built on corner weight scales to be as neutral as possible before the suspension... then i can dial the handling as it suits my driving style.

that and some nice meaty negative offset 17x10 inchers out back should make it easier to tame by widening the track.

i also saved the front knuckles off my 318i so i can play around with extended steering angle. same with the rack.. which i thought i read somewhere that the sedan has shorter lock to lock.. similar to the 95 m3.. but if not i have a spare rack anyway just in case something happens.

once i get back to school and work out a schedule i'll be able to get started.

my bad, i keep thinking we have shorter wheel base since were in a shorter car all together forgeting the trunk makes coupes/sedans look bigger. but im sure the extra weight in the back is good for something. but ti isnt a bad setup. i pull decent drifts with everything stock on economy tires.

extra weight in back makes it easier to swing for sure. thats why i will be counteracting that with suspension tuning and adding/deleting sway bars as necessary

500hp will help to keep the tail boiling too... and that is detuned for low boost.

pretty mild hp for the engine i'm using really. toyota aristo 2jzgte engine (same as usdm toyota supra twin turbo 320hp stock ), PHR GT62 single turbo, tial 44mm wastegate. Made 400hp thru the auto trans in my Lexus GS300 under stock boost cut limit, on stock fuel, on the stock untuned aristo ecu.

will be easy to find hp in this motor once it is freed up and running on manual transmission and i get into tuning it (map2 ecu most likely)

BOOOOSSSSTTT haha.. but a toyota motor? and your tearing up a gs to build you drift car? a 2jz swap in a ti sounds beast tho..

no i had a GS300 for 7 years, the last 4 swapped. Trying to sell the caged chassis still ($500.00) with clean title.. kept the 2jz motor.

the 2jz was supposed to be in the 318i already.. but i just didnt like the looks of the sedan... love the ti.

this was a long time ago.. but this is with the engine going into the ti.. this vids was with a small set of custom twin turbos at low boost.
