Towing with the Ti!
 

Thought I'd dedicate my 1,000th post to how useful (and awesome) the 318ti is :biggrin:

I finally got to put my Da'Lan hitch to good use today when I rented a lawn aerator! The machine and trailer together are only about 300 lbs.

Lol this just made my day! If I had 1 of those on, I'd tell my neighborhood kids that it was a turbo, and that it adds like 5 kabillion horse power. And they would believe it!:mrhappy::p:eyebrow:

Ok ok jk. I think towing mobiles homes is more reserved for Hugo, bimmerbum, and soon jess.

I actually have knowledge of someone who is getting ready to use a ti to tow another car:eek: Seriously, I'm not mentioning any names and I tried to talk him out of it. I honestly don't think it's even possible, but we'll see:redface:

Hehe, I think it's very possible. Though it would take 5 minutes to accelerate to 40mph. And I'd hate to see how fast the pads heat up after stopping 3 times. :lol:

I wouldn't try towing a car with the ti. The european manual puts the limit at 1,366 lbs. for an unbraked trailer and 3,306 (!) for the M44 engine, a braked trailer and lower road grades.

The trailer I was using was no more than 400 lbs. It's just a little old boat trailer with a homemade deck. The cabinets were only a few hundred pounds, so maybe 700 lbs. max here. The tounge weight was definitely under the 165 lbs (150 lbs. for the hitch) limit. Under 100 lbs for sure.

Even with this load it I cold barely tell it was pulling anything. Except for the clatter of the old trailer, and the slight tugging feeling over big bumps, it was pretty normal. Climbing out of the river valley (steep enough for a truck lane) I did shift out of 5th and into fourth, feeling that it didn't quite have the normal "ooph". Once in fourth it was happy again.

Believe me I know. I towed my ClubSport 400 miles with a Jeep Cherokee. I had to lie to Uhaul to get them to rent me a car dolley. They said that the Cherokee was not heavy enough to tow a 318ti, so I told them that I was using a Suburban instead. Needless to say, it was a pretty wild ride home in the Jeep with the ClubSport behind me. There were more than a couple times where the trailer started fishtailing and whipping the Jeep back and forth. I though we were going to lose control!

I have the Da' lan hitch as well. I tow my Triumph motorcycle with it, total weight is about 650lbs. Haven't had any problems. I have a bicycle rack that mounts to the ball style receiver.
