Does anyone have this on there ti??

I don't recall anyone saying they did and never recalled my car having it. I'm thinking since our model was the low end of Bmw they didn't bother. Anyway it's the Engine Under Guard Cover, the place where i took my car told me it was missing,i don't think it's misiing we just didn't have one.

cali-ti 01-26-2006 12:22 AM

you have a pic or link or anything?

Tyler 01-26-2006 12:29 AM

No i don't,they just told me it was missing. From what my dad says it's supposed to cover from the bumper all the way to just after the oil pan. I'm clueless on this. I wouldn't mind putting one in if possible.

I don't think we have something like that.
If that was the case I would not be able to see my sway bar, right?
There is a skid plate that covers everything below the engine.

aceyx 01-26-2006 03:14 AM

There is an undercarriage cover, but it certainly doesn't go all the way to the oil pan. It essentially protects the radiator and a/c compressor from rocks that might fly up. However, the probability of that happening is ridiculously low.

Most of the time, people drive up on curbs etc when parking, and the piece comes off. Dealers do not always replace the part.

I had a plastic piece underneth but took it off to find out where my car was leaking oil..(still havnt figured it out why its leaking) but other then that im not aware of any other piece

Under engine covers

Here is the link to RealOEM page where the under engine covers and other bits are described. My 318ti doesn't have a cover under the sway bar to the pulleys and yet it looks as though there should be. But this link doesn't show anything like that. I have had to replace most of the pieces under the engine, previous owner ran over a tire on the freeway.

Aw crap. Now that I know about this, I'm probably gonna do this instead of cutting a piece of lexan to go underneath.

My dads e46 323i has a plastic cover under the car. This might be what they were talking about. It is basically to just scare you into not doing anything yourself to the car. I don't think that it helps in any other way. Honestly i hate working on his car cause every time I have to get under it I have to take it of and it is just a hassle.

if you're talking about the "front aggregate protective plate" ... IT IS NOT A STOCK PIECE! it's a motorsport part meant (more or less) for offroad. that said, i'm considering that in place of the x-brace for better protection underneath :)

EDIT: also, the protective plate is METAL not plastic.

my protective piece is plastic

Same here - a big chunk of plastic covering the whole floor of the engine bay. I had one on my Alfa GTV until I hit a badger - it certainly saved all the essential parts on the engine although a new cover was 250 quid (about 400 dollars) to replace - gulp!

cali-ti 01-26-2006 09:46 PM

those who have this large protective plastic piece, take a pic and post it up for us to take a look at please

Does this cover underneath your bumper or does it cover from the bumper back? Basically from where to where is what i'm asking.
