Wobble at 45MPH and When Brakes Applied?
 

My steering wheel starts to shake when i hit around 45 miles per hour but once i get above 50 it stops and below 40 there isnt anything either. Also it shakes a lot when i apply the brakes coming from higher speeds.

We were thinking something wrong with the front right tire, but they are 4 new snows so were still unsure.


Any ideas?

balance is a very common issue with wobbles.

take the tires in to any tire place and they should check it for free.

if the tire needs balanced it shouldnt be more than 10 dollars, surprisingly walmart is the cheapest for that.

Are these new wheels as well as tires?

Could need hub centric rings mounted.

and all your lug bolts are tight correct? seems stupid but sometimes overlooked and can come loose

Its your control arm bushings. We had a list of symptoms and fixes somewhere, but I can't find it.

High speed wobble = CABs
Low speed shake over driveways/RR tracks = ball joints.

i had that problem its a mess with out the rings.

Could also be warped or brake pad deposits on rotors.
LCABs are the easiest to check.

The symptoms he mentioned sound exactly like what my car was doing. I bought new 17" wheels, and the tire shop didn't put the rings in. When I later had them put in, fixed the problem.

Alright thanks for the help, ill check the rings, already had the tires rebalanced and checked the CABs but that had nothing to do with it.

Any updates on this? I have the same problems too but I have been putting off replacing LCAs because of the cold weather... and because I no longer have access to a garage now.

I too am noticing the same problem, not terribly bad but enough to get my attention. I did get new tires and rims and I do need an alignment.

I just want to see if there is anything I need to do before I get the alignment.

I had this problem on my 325xi; I chased it for months and it ended up being a frozen caliper. I hope this helps. :wink:

track control arm bushes are usually the culprits however i know a lot of people who changed the steering rack next and that cured it.

I had the same problem when braking at 40 mph or above. One day I was reinstalling the front left tire and while tightening the bolts after lowering the car, noticed that the wheel moved backwards when I applied torque. Went to the right tire and applied torque to the bolts but it didn't move, so I got someone to apply torque to the left tire bolts while I looked under the car and saw a broken control arm bushing. I had the same bushings replaced a few months before, so I decided to upgrade to solid M3 bushings and problem solved.
