Wondering whether anyone has tried to replace their trunk cover ... I've got a black cover and it's been discolored from the sun ... thinking about either replacing it (anyone know how much that usually costs ?) or maybe dying it black ... has anyone tried to dye their covers ? |
Mine is purple now as well. I saw a post somewhere about dyeing it. I think it's a spray-on dye, and it supposedly works really well. I'll try to find the post... Try Ron Stygar's posts on unnofficialbmw (.com/.org- not sure which right now...) If you find it, post it here for everyone. I'm sure that part is at least $75.00. I don't have a P/N or cost for it. |

Well, I guess dyeing it is the answer... That's got to be less than $100.00 |
sure is :D |
the rear deck? the part held on by the strings when you open the hatch? BavAuto told me $300. |
contacted maximillian importing, hope to get a reply soon ... $100 is fine but I don't think I'd want to spend $300 or even $375 to replace the deck, I'd probably go for the dying instead ... I'm wondering whether there's any difference in the quality ... it's not that impressive in the first place, so there must not be that much fo a difference ... |
Well, it's settled then. we're dyeing them. $300.00 will get me a new tire! |
I bet we could get them made from Carbon for $300.00... That piece of crap is not all that light anyway. |
CF, mmmm good! Paul @ MI was very helpful to me and to be clear I got the one without the sunshade for $100 actually it was like $91 and the rest was shipping $100.24 exact :) |
if you've got a part number, that'd be helpful ... I really think that'd be a good investment at this point, I hate how purple my deck looks ... :? |

51 46 8 189 223 SANDGRAU (TAN ) I don't know german too well ;} double check with them. also this is the part # without the sunshade. |
you're awesome, thanks for the info ... :D |
Black is 'schwartz' in German. Not sure what that other name is... perhaps it's 'charcoal' or something. The dealer should know. |
Haven't gotten a reply from MI yet, but Bavarian Auto said they could special order it for me for $109 w/$20 shipping ... |

did you call them, I got it done in like 5 minutes price and order. |
Actually ... I had to take the car in for an oil change and after talking to one of the secretaries, I got in touch with a used parts place in California, they sent me images of a used one, w/the rear roller blind for $85. I was so lucky, they only had one and it was in mint condition cuz the car was equipped with the blind. I got used rubber floor and trunk mats from the TI for $40 as well. I have to say that this is one of the best aesthetic improvements I could have made to the interior ... I think I'm gonna save up for the armrest kit and chrome selector lever, I hate the small choice of automatic levers for BMW's ... Thanks for all the help guys, especially Mr. Schlossman, this forum is amazing.   |
wow nice buys.good luck with the car. |
