1998 BWM 318ti for sale. 5 speed. Original owner. black 5 speed. Body good no rust, garaged in the South for 13 years prior to moving to the land of snow. Car has 290K miles and is a daily driver but is ready for engine work or better yet an I6 motor swap. Won't pass NH inspection due to engine code "engine mis-fire". Good points: cold AC, good tires, nice seats and dash and CD player, Ice cold AC, ABS and ASC working. Shocks, struts, CVC joints redone - good suspension. Bad points: engine tired, rear brakes marginal, headliner needs replacing and New Hampshire inspection failure. Can send you more info. First $1,500 cash brought to my house and you drive home in the car.

Looks nice.

What is wrong with the engine that makes it "tired"?

Has the head ever been off?

No, the engine is virginal, never entered. This is why I feel it is tired. Still running, no smoke but idles rough and "mis-fires" per the shop that wants to work on it. I changed the spark plugs about 20,000 miles ago. Also was told the cam-shaft sensor may be bad. I am just not willing to take this car to BMW to spend a grand or two to get the motor work done as I have a new car shipping to me now from the factory. Time to let her go after 15 wonderful years....

MichaelB, I am looking for a 318ti semi-project/learning car, and yours seems to fit the bill. Being in NJ, it is also not too far.

Which version is it? Base, Active or Sport? And what options? Do you have any more pictures?

From the photos it appears to be an active unless the wheels where swapped out.

NH 318ti

The wheels are stock that came on the car when I bought new. I will have to check on the window sticker I still have at home on the specific model (base or active or sport). Not a ton of otions - cruise control, working power sunroof, traction control. Not a spec of rust, garaged in South Carolina for 13 years. Garaged now, you can pick up and drive it to New Jersey.
May be able to find out more from my VIN number WBACG7326WKC30976. Can call me if you wish this evening after 6. 978-237-7850.

OBC, Cruise, 15" 5 spoke wheels generally means it's an active.

MichaelB 05-21-2012 05:43 PM

Yes, I think it is an Active model. It also has a working OBC (on board computer?) that details gas mileage, etc...

Confirmed. Car window sticker says Active package that was a $1,350 upgrade. Only other add on option was $950 for power sunroof. Retail sticker price was $24,260 way back in 1998. Negotiated with Century BWM dealer in Greenville SC down to $22,883.

MichaelB, can I call you tonight?

MichaelB 05-22-2012 06:39 PM

Sure!

Folks I sold the TI to a guy in Conway NH who has 3 ti's. Good home for her. Let her go for 1400. Buyer popped the hood and said the rough idle that caused the inspection failure likely due to a vacuum hose that he diagnosed as leaking. So a 20 buck fix. Just glad to see her get a good home. I am in an 04 X3 now. Not a bad trade but more like a truck!

bubela 05-25-2012 02:42 PM

Awesome! If you were closer, I would also have another ti. Enjoy the X3!
