Brake noise?????
 

Hi guys,
A bit of a tricky one here.....

About 3 months ago I put new discs and pads on the front, I put standard discs on there and Black diamond pads.
After about 2 days after doing this when I press the brake I could hear a knocking noise...I thought it was down to the Black diamond pads not being suitable for road use just track use?
I replaced the Black diamond pads with some cheaper ones from my local motor factors, fitted the new pads and problem solved...for a couple of days!
Now my knocking noise is back..it sounds like when I press the brake that the pads are moving up in the caliper and hitting the top surface of the caliper and thats what is making the noise? but 2 sets of different make pads wouldn't have the same problem...would they?

Is this possible for the pads to move up and down in the caliper?

Any ideas what this noise could be?

What kind of rotors did you use? A coworker had a very similar problem with her Neon. It made a horrible, loud knocking whenever she got on the brakes at all. It turned out that the rotors had a pattern left on them from the manufacturing process that was making the pads do weird things. We had them turned to take just a little off and they've been fine ever since.

That sounds like the same problem..
When ever I hit the brakes it usaually make a knocking noise once, but some times I have heard it twice as if what ever is happening is happening on both discs (rotors).

You could be correct in saying that it is the discs (rotors) because it has only been happening since I changed them. As for what make they are, I don't know, they were only cheap and I got them from a local motor factors costing about £40 for the pair.

I have been back to the calipers and pads/discs twice to make sure everything is tight and everything is so it's not anything loose causing the noise.....


what do you recomend i do?

It shouldn't cost you too much to just have a brake shop skim a little off of the rotors. Just enough to give you a smooth surface. That's what we did and it solved her problem.
