Cracked the head on my 1998 M44 5speed 1.9L and got a M42 longblock for 300$ so now I need to know the things for a swap> OBII into a OBI>

A M42 harness + M42 DCM is all i need right?

And where is the location on the crank position sensor on a M42?

I know on a M44, it locates under the starter but can't seem to find the M42.

And about the DCM, i know there are blue, red, and green label. So which one would i need? Thanks all!

shame not much more info out there. I don't know. and i'm going through something similar, looking at a m42 ecu and harness mating to a m44 motor. both stick shift. looking for the difficulties, not much info out there.

There's a lot more involved than that, just get an m44 head or finds the correct engine. Intake, exhaust, coolant hoses, fan, dme, hfm, o2, cam/crank sensors, none are capatible. I've done the swap

Yeah, i ended up not installing the engine after all.

I will look for a obd2 inline six!

And btw, just bought another 98 318ti for 600$ without the wheels. : D
