Reset "miles" light after replacing odometer

How do I use the instrument cluster test modes to reset the miles light indicating the odometer was replaced? (I have the dash with 21 or 22 built in test functions). I know this is possible, I just can't find documentation on how to do it. I think it is test 17 or 18, but I don't know what I do when I get to that test.

There are two computers in the car that store the odometer reading, if one is less than the other it will indicate a fault, and it is possible to copy the higher mileage one into the lower mileage one (so just the higher mileage one remains) and the light will go off. I have been able to get it to do this, but only on a temporary basis. The light comes back on when I unplug the battery. Is this how it is supposed to work so someone couldn't cover up that they replace the odometer?

Not sure about your cluster, but mine only has 15 tests. Just note that when you swap clusters, the EEPROM and the coding plug will not match. This will illuminate the manipulation dot next to the mileage display. If you hold in the reset buttonfor 4 seconds, the manipulation dot will be cancelled, but IT WILL OVERWRITE THE LOWER MILEAGE and the higher of the two mileages will be saved to the car's computer. It's test 09 on my cluster, again, I'm not sure about yours if it's different. Here's a link to where I found this information:

Hmm, I'm not sure why it won't save the data. Anyone else with an idea or helpful advice?

I didn't think the 4 cylinder clusters had the EEPROM.

Just to add, this is a cluster from a Z3, or so I was informed, and it is a newer cluster than mine (why it has 21 or 22 tests). I swapped in my coding plug, so the mileage is close, but I drove about 10 miles when it wasn't working, so there is a discrepancy.

Thanks, by reading that linked text, I have to hold the reset button for 4 seconds while on the test for resetting the miles light. I think I missed that step before. I will try that again, and if I figure out exactly which test it is on my cluster the reset function is.
