DIY Bumper re-paint My bumpers have really bad sun burn & road rash (front only!). Any good DIY way to repaint them? A good body shop will want a $1,000 shake down. It seems like anybody shop repair starts at a grand these days. My car color is silver & the PO had the car repainted professionally, but left off the bumpers. Must have been an insurance thing after fender bender. Stuart |
I went to Harbor Freight, bought an air compressor and a gravity feed, low pressure, paint gun and started painting. The equipment plus the paint and associated supplies should not run you over $300. Get some advice from the guy at the auto paint store and on the internet, take your time, and you should be fine. Good luck, John |
Hang on a minute. My friend lent me on a long-term loan, his Fuji HVLP 3 sprayer. This sucker cost a grand new. It came with a bottom feed gun, but I can buy a gravity fed gun pretty cheap, I think. Thanks for jostling that memory! Stuart |
For urethane bumpers, make sure you use an adhesion promoter and flex agent. |
